There are four types of meeting that you can join using StarLeaf:
A scheduled meeting begins at a particular time. Participants receive instructions on how to join a scheduled meeting from either a StarLeaf invite (see below), or a StarLeaf scheduled calendar event.
When a meeting is scheduled, each participant receives a meeting invite by email which provides instructions for all the different ways of joining a StarLeaf video meeting. For the best meeting experience, participants can choose Join video meeting using StarLeaf app.
Selecting More ways to join your meeting opens the participant’s default web browser which displays all the other ways that you can join a meeting:
- From a meeting room system (StarLeaf, Cisco, Polycom, etc.)
- From a web browser
- Using phone audio and browser video
- From Skype for Business

On StarLeaf for Windows and macOS, you can start a meeting instantly from the Today tab, and choose to invite people afterward.
You can copy the link and share it with anyone so that they can join the meeting, or invite people by email.
Invitees receive the same joining instructions and information that a scheduled meeting invite would provide.
When you add a person or room system to a one-to-one call, this is known as an ad hoc meeting. You can add a participant at any time using the in-call Add participant control on your touchscreen or StarLeaf app:
An ad hoc meeting has the same in-call controls and features as any other meeting.
A permanent meeting is a virtual meeting room that anyone can dial into at any time. The dialing details never change and the meeting is always joinable, as there is no scheduled end time. Permanent meetings have the same features as scheduled meetings, such as: invites, interoperability, PSTN dial-in, etc.
To create a permanent meeting, go to Portal > Meetings > Create permanent meeting.
If your organization does not have the option to create permanent meetings and you want it to, ask your admin to contact the StarLeaf reseller to request permanent meetings.
A permanent meeting only takes up a meeting license when there are participants in the meeting. If you are a licensed host, and you attempt to start another meeting while your permanent meeting has participants in it, you are given the option to end the permanent meeting. Ending the permanent meeting disconnects all current participants.
