StarLeaf uses the camera, microphone, and screen recording functionality of your device. For voice and video calls, you must allow StarLeaf to have access to your camera and microphone. On some devices, you must enable Screen Recording in order to share your screen into a StarLeaf meeting.

On this page:

Permissions on iPhone and Android

When you first launch StarLeaf, a permissions dialog prompts you to allow StarLeaf access to your camera and microphone. StarLeaf only uses your camera and microphone while in a call or meeting.

If you deny these permissions, you will not be able to make voice or video calls using StarLeaf. To re-enable, follow the steps below:

iPhone:

  • Go to iPhone Settings > Privacy > Camera and enable StarLeaf
  • Go to iPhone Settings > Privacy > Microphone and enable StarLeaf

Android:

  • Go to Android Settings > Apps > StarLeaf > Permissions and enable Camera and Microphone

The location of camera and microphone permissions may vary depending on the model of your device.

Camera detection on Android

On Android devices you may sometimes see a notification saying that StarLeaf has been detected using Camera, even when you are not in a call:

StarLeaf app periodically scans for the presence and capabilities of a camera on your device, and when Android detects this scanning, it triggers that notification.

StarLeaf never uses your camera when not in call with StarLeaf app.

Permissions on macOS

When you first launch StarLeaf, a permissions dialog prompts you to allow StarLeaf access to your camera and microphone. StarLeaf only uses your camera and microphone while in a call or meeting.

On these dialogs, select OK:

If you select Don’t Allow and then attempt to make or receive a voice or video call, StarLeaf  will show you how to re-enable these permissions.

Permissions on macOS Catalina

If your Mac is operating with macOS Catalina, there is an additional permission you must grant if you want to share your screen while you are in a call.

To enable screen sharing:

  1. Go to System Preferences in the main Apple menu.
  2. Select Security & Privacy.
  3. Select Privacy.
  4. Select Screen Recording.
  5. Tick the box beside StarLeaf to enable permissions.
  6. Restart StarLeaf to activate the changes.
