The StarLeaf Cloud allows calls between different protocols: StarLeaf, H.323, Lync/Skype-for-Business, and SIP.

If a user dials abc.def@example.com, the StarLeaf Cloud attempts to automatically determine which protocol to use for that call.

The StarLeaf Cloud chooses the first appropriate protocol from this list:

  1. StarLeaf
  2. H.323
  3. Lync/Skype for Business
  4. SIP

This approach is very quick at automatically determining which protocol to use for a call and does not burden users with the need to know which protocol is preferred/required by the device to which they are calling.

However, it is possible to force a call from a StarLeaf device to use a particular protocol. To do so, prefix the address with the protocol to use, e.g. h323: lync: sip:

For example:

  • to force a call to be a Lync/Skype for Business call, dial the following on your StarLeaf Breeze or hardware room system:
    lync:abc.def@example.com
  • to force a call to be an H.323 call, dial the following on your StarLeaf Breeze or hardware room system:
    h323:abc.def@example.com
  • to force a call to be a SIP call, dial the following on your StarLeaf Breeze or hardware room system:
    sip:abc.def@example.com
