Network proxies are devices that sit on the network and allow control of the internet access from the internal network. In general, proxies only support the TCP transport protocol and do not support proxying UDP traffic. However, TCP is not recommended for real-time video conferencing applications. UDP is the protocol of choice for real-time applications as it delivers the best user experience.
For these reasons, if an organization is looking to deploy real-time video conferencing on the network, the best approach is to configure the network to allow the UDP video conferencing traffic through.
StarLeaf video conferencing makes this configuration very simple and secure. StarLeaf has developed advanced firewall/NAT traversal technology, which requires minimal configuration on the network while maintaining a secure network.
The StarLeaf Cloud verifies the client certificate to check that a StarLeaf device is connecting. Therefore, if an HTTPS proxy is also running on the network/PC, we are not able to verify the certificate. This results in a provisioning request failure.
Click-to-Call supports connections through proxies that support the use of HTTP CONNECT on port 443. The StarLeaf Cloud uses HTTP CONNECT to open an end-to-end TCP connection between the browser and the StarLeaf Cloud Border Controller. Click-to-Call will use the proxy settings that are configured in the user’s browser settings.
The proxy must allow connections to <subdomain>.call.sl.
StarLeaf Outlook Add-in for Exchange Server supports connection through proxies. The add-in supports the HTTP-CONNECT proxy protocol and it uses the proxy configuration from a user’s Internet Explorer proxy settings. The add-in supports all HTTP proxies that Internet Explorer supports. For scheduling meetings, the add-in communicates with api.starleaf.com.
