These release notes provide you with information about the latest upgrade to StarLeaf meetings. This is a feature release and is effective from March 2020.

All upgrades take place outside of normal office hours for all regions. Endpoints automatically restart and reconnect to StarLeaf after the upgrade.

StarLeaf operates a system of rolling upgrades across our data centers, which are distributed globally. New features may be enabled separately.

New features

Spring 2020 and its subsequent updates provide the following new features:

Support for StarLeaf Huddle

StarLeaf Huddle is an all-in-one video meeting room solution that is easy to set up with no specialist installation required. Available to pre-order now.

Included in the StarLeaf Huddle kit:

  • Touchscreen
  • Pronto Cable USB
  • Microphone
  • C10 Camera
  • Cable dock

Wireless content sharing with Pronto 210

With Pronto 210, you can now wirelessly share content to your meeting room, from any laptop, smartphone or device.

Pronto 210 is available as a standalone installation in a room and contains Hub 20 for wireless sharing, and Pronto Cable USB for wired sharing. If you already have a StarLeaf room system such as the GT Mini, you can upgrade your room system with Hub 20 for wireless sharing. For more information, go here.

StarLeaf for Microsoft Teams

A new and improved StarLeaf integration for Microsoft Teams is available to download from the Teams app store here .

All StarLeaf for Teams users see a StarLeaf icon in the Teams toolbar. From here, users can start or schedule StarLeaf meetings from any chat, group, or channel.

Everyone in the chat, group, or channel receives a message which contains information on the different ways to join the meeting, for example, with StarLeaf, from a StarLeaf room system, on a browser or phone.

For more information, go to StarLeaf for Microsoft Teams

Localized integrations

StarLeaf for Microsoft Teams is now available in the languages below. StarLeaf Scheduler for Office 365 will also be available in these languages soon.

Brazilian Portuguese

MultiJoin is an interoperability feature of StarLeaf meeting rooms which illuminates the green join button on StarLeaf room systems for third-party meetings.

From Spring 2020, in addition to Zoom, Bluejeans, and Skype for Business, support for WebEx, Pexip, and Microsoft Teams (using a CVI gateway from BlueJeans, Pexip, or Poly) meetings is available. Users can now join these meetings from StarLeaf rooms at the touch of a button.

MultiJoin is available for organizations with an Enterprise Room Subscription.

Guest Join

Guest Join gives new users the opportunity to join a StarLeaf meeting without having to sign into the app. Guests can use any browser to join a meeting from a StarLeaf invite.

Meeting invites now include a link to directly join the meeting so existing StarLeaf app users also benefit from simplified joining straight from the meeting invites.

For more information, go to Guest Join.

Meet now

On StarLeaf for Windows, you can now start a meeting instantly from the Meetings tab and choose to invite people afterward.

You can copy the link and share it with anyone so that they can join the meeting, or invite people by email.

Meet now for StarLeaf on macOS is coming soon.

Room system display improvements

You can now customize the idle wallpaper image on the room screen. To upload your own wallpaper, go to Portal > Branding> Upload new wallpaper.

Other improvements to the room screen display include:

  • Calendar view
  • Mute status indication
  • Content sharing status indication
  • Instructions for using Pronto Cable USB
  • Upcoming meeting indication (while you are in a meeting, an on-screen notification appears ten minutes before the next meeting is due to start in that room)
  • Video error messages
  • User tip on the idle screen that informs people about StarLeaf for desktop and mobile

Improvements to call and meeting quality: 1080p, 30fps, and 6Mbps

Now supported in StarLeaf room systems with a Touch 2045:

  • 1080p30 video receive
  • 1080p30 content
  • Higher bandwidth calls of up to 6Mbps

Now supported in StarLeaf room systems with a Touch 2035/2036:

  • 1080p30 content

During the Spring 2020 upgrade, support for these improvements will be automatically rolled out but an organization’s current settings for site and room system call bandwidths will not be changed. If admins want to enable higher bandwidth calls, they must do this in the StarLeaf Portal for each site or room system:

Portal > Edit site or Portal > Edit room system > Hardware endpoint > Advanced settings

In Portal, go to Sites > Edit site and select Custom> Edit.

For more information about customizing invites, go to Customizing invite templates.

Customizable invites are available for organizations with an Enterprise Meetings Subscription.

Localized meeting invites: StarLeaf Scheduler for Office 365 and Google Calendar

Meeting invites created using StarLeaf schedulers for O365 and Google calendar are now localized according to the user language settings of the meeting organizer.

For more information, go to Localization of StarLeaf endpoints, apps, and Portal

10-digit meeting IDs

Meeting IDs for newly created meetings will now contain 10 digits instead of 7. Old or existing meetings with 7-digit meeting IDs will not be affected and these meeting IDs will remain the same.

Meeting lobby improvements

When you join a meeting, the lobby or waiting screen now shows your self-view and will display different messages according to whether you are waiting for the meeting organizer to join, the only person in the meeting, or if the meeting is locked.

Preferred messaging client

In the StarLeaf Portal, you can choose a preferred messaging client for a site in your organization. Go to Sites > Edit site > Messaging integration and choose one or more that apply to your site.

Call quality feedback

At the end of some of your StarLeaf calls, you may now receive a request to complete a call rating as shown below. This will appear on very few of your calls but provides StarLeaf with valuable feedback about the quality of your call and will help identify the causes of any call quality issues.

StarLeaf software is now available for the Yealink VP59 video phone.

Features of StarLeaf on the VP59:

  • Familiar, intuitive StarLeaf user interface on a large touchscreen display
  • Do not disturb feature for focused work
  • Centralized directories, conferencing, hold, transfer and merge calls
  • One button to join meetings
  • High-quality audio and video
  • Easy-install, complete package with in-built camera

Known limitations

For per-vendor interoperability information, refer here.

Reference ID Description
27048, 27195 In certain cases, StarLeaf green buttons for Microsoft Teams meetings do not work when Poly or Pexip is the Teams gateway provider. StarLeaf is working on a fix for this which will be available in the coming months
25443 On Android devices you may sometimes see a notification saying that StarLeaf has been detected using Camera, even when you are not in a call. StarLeaf app periodically scans for the presence and capabilities of a camera on your device, and when Android detects this scanning, it triggers that notification. StarLeaf never uses your camera when not in call with StarLeaf app.
12067 In some circumstances, when a Skype for Business client attempts to add video or content into a StarLeaf meeting with no other video participants there can be unexpected call failure

Using Click-to-Call (WebRTC) in the Safari browser on OSX sometimes results in difficulties receiving shared content and dropped calls when the Safari tab is minimized for longer than 10 seconds. This is due to the AppNap feature on OSX that puts background applications to sleep if they are not in the foreground

Click-to-Call is not supported on Safari from version 11.2 onwards. This is due to changes in Safari that mean the browser no longer supports plugins. For more information on browser support and compatibility, refer to Click-to-Call

11755 There is a BFCP interoperability issue between Cisco VCS and the StarLeaf Cloud which can cause screen share to be disabled mid call
10858 Internet Explorer 11: When you access a user page on the Portal using Internet Explorer 11, the time zone selection box automatically opens
