These release notes provide you with information about the latest upgrade to the StarLeaf Cloud, Portal, and endpoints. This is a feature release and is effective from October 2017.

All upgrades take place outside of normal office hours for all regions. Endpoints automatically restart and reconnect to the Cloud after the upgrade.

StarLeaf operates a system of rolling upgrades across our data centers, which are distributed globally. New features may be enabled separately.

New features

StarLeaf app

Cloud 5.1 introduces support for the StarLeaf app.

The StarLeaf app is a simple, secure and reliable application for messaging, meetings and calling. It works from anywhere, on any device, so colleagues can collaborate, share and discuss as easily on the move as at work, and it is completely interoperable with other third party video conferencing systems. Its features include:

  • One-to-one messaging
  • Persistent messaging
  • Group messaging
  • Private/public groups
  • Encrypted messaging
  • One-to-one messaging can easily become a call (audio or video)
  • Group messaging can easily become a video meeting (with global telephone dial-in)
  • Messages are automatically synced across all of your computers and devices (on which you have installed StarLeaf)
  • Dedicated meetings tab
  • Rich presence
  • Easy sign in and sign up (inside the app)
  • Great look and feel
  • Great usability

StarLeaf will add the following features soon: call transfer, guest invite, attachments, and the ability to add more people to a point-to-point call from the app user interface.

Cloud 5.1 introduces support for iPhones, with the app available on Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS.

The app and Breeze can co-exist in the same organization.

The app and Breeze can co-exist on the same Windows / Mac device for a given user.

Your organization is enabled to use the app, but new users in the organization will continue to get Breeze. When you are ready to roll out the app in your organization, tell StarLeaf technical support that you also want new users to get the app.

Tell your users about our Downloads page. It will recognize the user’s operating system and each user will sign themselves in using email-based authentication. There is no password and username to remember.

The StarLeaf app is available for:

  • Windows 10 (and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and later) (requires .NET framework 4.6 or later)
  • iOS 8.0 and later
  • Mac OS 10.11 and later
  • Android 4.4 or later

Okta integration

Cloud 5.1 introduces support for integration with Okta. If your organization uses Okta for user synchronization, you can now integrate that with your StarLeaf account.

Using the Okta integration, you can manage, provision and maintain StarLeaf accounts through your own directory service e.g. Active Directory.

New look Portal

The StarLeaf Portal has a new look. The Portal provides access to account details, scheduling interface and recordings. The new look enhances the existing functionality and provides an optimized experience for desktop and mobile users.

Synergy Sky integration

StarLeaf Cloud integrates with Synergy Sky Meeting Server to ‘light up’ Polycom and Cisco ‘join now’ buttons for StarLeaf and Skype for Business scheduled meetings. If you are using Polycom or Cisco endpoints and these are registered to your StarLeaf Cloud, you might find it useful to integrate with Synergy SKY Meeting Server. This third-party product will light up Polycom and Cisco ‘join now’ buttons for StarLeaf and Skype for Business scheduled meetings.

Up to 20 participants in QuickMeet conferences

The limit for the number of participants that you can have in an ad hoc conference has increased to 20. Previously, you could only have up to 5 participants in an ad hoc conference. An ad hoc conference is one that you initiate during a point-to-point call from a StarLeaf endpoint or Breeze. Where there are more than 5 participants in an ad hoc conference, you will be able to page horizontally through the participants on your call control panel:

The increased limit is not available for customers who only have QuickMeet conference licenses.

Cloud API improvements

Cloud 5.1 introduces the following additional features for the Cloud API:

  • requests for organization admins & resellers to schedule conferences
  • request for resellers to request the Cloud version of an organization and a list of features enabled for an organization

Custom integrations are enabled for all StarLeaf customers

Cloud 5.1 enables custom integrations for all StarLeaf customers. Custom integrations are useful where you want to create a client that can access the Cloud API to, for example, create conferences or add users.

Bug fixes effective in StarLeaf Cloud 5.1:

13534 A StarLeaf participant in an AVMCU conference will now receive video from a Skype for Business participant using an iPad in portrait orientation as expected
13842 In previous releases, under certain circumstances, there could be occasional one-way-only video in a StarLeaf conference involving both SIP and H.323 endpoints. StarLeaf Cloud 5.1 fixes this issue
13285 Click-to-Call now behaves as expected when calling to a Lifesize Passport
14001 In previous releases, in a conference where the StarLeaf Cloud perceived a Click-to-Call participant to have a very low bandwidth, this could cause the conference to become ‘locked’ such that no new participants could join. StarLeaf Cloud 5.1 fixes this issue
