Introduction
These release notes provide you with information about the latest upgrade to StarLeaf meetings.
All upgrades take place outside of normal office hours for all regions. Endpoints automatically restart and reconnect to StarLeaf after the upgrade.
StarLeaf operates a system of rolling upgrades across our data centers, which are distributed globally. New features may be enabled separately.
New features
Share computer sound with content
Windows only. Requires apps 4.4 and Portal 6.6
When you share your screen in a meeting, you can also choose to Share computer sound. This could be, for example, the audio with a YouTube video. Press Share to begin sharing content and sound for other participants to see and hear.
Add to your team
Requires apps 4.4 and Portal 6.6
Invite others to join you on StarLeaf with a new Add to your team button on the Today tab.
When you click Add to your team and Send email, it creates an email using your default email client. The email text is prepopulated and contains your unique StarLeaf invite link.
Start meeting on mobile
Requires apps 4.4
Create your own instant meeting with the new Start meeting option and invite others to join your meeting.
Record on mobile
Requires apps 4.4
During a meeting, you can now start and stop recording the meeting from your iOS or Android device. For more information, go to Recording from StarLeaf for mobile.
In-meeting chat
Requires apps 4.3 and Portal 6.6
During a meeting, you can now access a meeting group chat and send instant messages to other participants, including Guest Join users. Share and view files like any normal one-to-one chat.
When the meeting ends or drops down to one participant, the chat and chat history disappear. Meeting rooms and external participants from other StarLeaf organizations cannot view or participate in the chat.
New and improved meeting experience
Requires apps 4.3 and Portal 6.6
When you are in a StarLeaf meeting, you will experience an improved view as shown in the video layout below.
Some changes include the following new behaviors:
- People who have joined the meeting on a telephone or by audio only, and room systems, are now represented by a video tile of equal size to people who have joined with video.
- The person speaking is easily identifiable with a highlight around their entire tile and the name bar turns blue as the person speaks.
- When a person leaves the meeting, an exit animation appears over their tile before it disappears.
- You will notice less movement from video tiles shuffling positions as people come and go during the meeting.
Ad hoc meetings do not yet have the improved meeting experience but this is coming soon.
Manage participants on mobile
Requires apps 4.3
Just like StarLeaf for desktop, you can now manage participants in a StarLeaf meeting on a mobile device. Controls such as mute/unmute all or individual participants, and lock meeting are available.
Wireless screen sharing
Available on apps 4.3
You can now share your laptop screen into a StarLeaf meeting without using a cable. This is especially useful if you have joined a meeting from a StarLeaf room, and want to wirelessly share the screen of your laptop into that meeting.
On the Today tab, there is a new Share screen control. Click this and select the meeting you want to share your screen into.
Wireless screen sharing will be available on StarLeaf for macOS soon.
StarLeaf Room for Poly: Use as accessory
There is new button on the home screen of the Poly TC8 controller called Use as accessory.
Pressing this activates device mode on the room system, allowing you to use the peripherals such as the camera and microphone as accessories with your own laptop or device.
Enhancements to StarLeaf Scheduler for Office 365
Now, only one click is required to add a StarLeaf meeting to your calendar event in Office 365. When you click the scheduler button, this creates a StarLeaf meeting immediately with no further requirements to authenticate or confirm.
Delegated calendar support: StarLeaf Scheduler for Office 365
The StarLeaf Scheduler now supports delegated calendar functionality. If you have permissions to edit another person’s calendar, you can schedule a StarLeaf meeting on their behalf. When you schedule a meeting for someone else, this person becomes the meeting organizer.
Participants who use StarLeaf app will see the scheduled meeting in the Meetings tab and can join using the green button.
End of support for Internet Explorer 11
Starting 3rd April 2021 (and possibly earlier for pre-release customers), StarLeaf will no longer support joining meetings through the browser Internet Explorer 11. If you attempt to join a StarLeaf meeting using Internet Explorer 11, you will be advised that it is not possible and prompted to instead use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge 79 or higher.
You can continue to access the StarLeaf Portal using Internet Explorer 11.
Updated privacy policy
The StarLeaf privacy policy has recently been updated and can be found on the Legal information page.
