StarLeaf video endpoints provide class-leading super-wideband audio to rooms of all sizes. However, to ensure this audio performance, you must use the correct number of microphones in the correct places for a given room. This guide helps you make the correct choices when selecting and configuring microphones for use with StarLeaf video endpoints.

The StarLeaf Telepresence Microphone 0155 effectively picks up participants of all volumes from a circle with radius 1.5m (4ft) centered on the microphone. This is shown in the diagram below:

The StarLeaf Conference Phone 2220 effectively picks up participants of all volumes from a circle with radius 3m (9ft) centered on the Conference Phone 2220. This is shown in the diagram below:

The effective pickup area of the Telepresence Microphone 0155 or Conference Phone 2220 should be used along with the dimensions of the conference table where the StarLeaf system is to be installed to decide on the correct audio products for this environment.

Where two microphones are used, position them so that the distance between all participants and the closest microphone is minimized. For instance, on a circular table place the microphone in the center of the table. On a large rectangular table measuring 3.6m x 1.2m (12ft x 4ft), place the microphones 1.2m (4ft) apart, 1.2m (4ft) from the ends of the table.

Where a Conference Phone 2220 is used, position it in the center of the table so that it is equidistant from all participants. As the Conference Phone 2220 has an internal loudspeaker, it is not necessary to install any other playback equipment.

The StarLeaf Portal provides a volume setting. This adjusts the loudness of the people who are in the same room as the microphone, as heard by the other participants in the call. For the volume, the recommended setting is 0dB or 6dB. Only use 12dB in very large rooms or under guidance from StarLeaf technical support.

The input sensitivity of the XLR connectors is, by default, correct for all StarLeaf microphones.
